Lee Seaton “kicked-off” his campaign bid for Supervisor in Murphys Saturday evening with a wine tasting party at the Native Son’s Hall. A good number of local dignitaries gathered for the event, and following some milling about, Seaton addressed the crowd with a thoughtful speech regarding the need for change in county leadership. Seaton was quick to say that the Supervisor race was not a bitter contest with six time incumbent Tom Tryon, but a race based on a difference of leadership ideology.
Regardless, Seaton, who is currently an Angels Camp City Councilman, faces an up hill battle. Name recognition alone gives Tryon a huge advantage. Following his speech Seaton took questions from the crowd including topics ranging from preserving our quality of life to high speed internet access for the rural sections of our community that currently enjoy slower internet speeds than parts of rural Mexico. In this, Seaton did not offer a bunch of hard thought positions; instead he pointed to work that he’s done in the past for the city of Angels Camp and the Council Of Governments (COG), which he chairs, and in which he has thought, “out of the box” in helping promote projects like the successful bi-partisan, “chips” project in West Point. In this, Seaton asserted that he has the ability to learn, to improvise and work with interested parties to effect change – Time will tell.
Seaton is the only person to have filed the in-liew petition to run, but both Tryon and Lori Kautz are expected to run for Supervisor- the opening date to declare is Feb.11th.
